Properties

Vagi-C vaginal tablets are used to treat chronic or recurrent bacterial infections of the vagina.

Bacterial infections of the vagina occur more frequently than you might think. Some women even contract them several times a year.

Healthy vaginal flora is a natural defence against infection. Lactic acid bacteria colonise the mucous membrane and create an acidic vaginal environment. This pH value (around 4) is maintained and is an important, natural protection against infections caused by pathogenic germs. The growth of pathogenic germs can thus be inhibited. A further prevention of infections by the lactobacilli takes place via their H2O2 production.

However, if the natural lactobacilli flora is disturbed, H2O2 production decreases, lactic acid production falls and the pH value rises, which favours the proliferation of pathogenic germs. A typical sign of this can be increased discharge with a typical fishy odour. Sometimes, however, the infection remains unrecognised, which can have dangerous consequences, especially during pregnancy. For example, it can lead to premature births and miscarriages. It is therefore very important to prevent or treat bacterial infections quickly, especially during pregnancy.

If a bacterial infection is treated with medication without restoring the body's own protective vaginal flora, it usually returns. Chronic recurrent infections are troublesome and very stressful for those affected. The focus of treatment is on restoring and stabilising the vaginal environment.

The active ingredient ascorbic acid (vitamin C) actively stimulates the pH value in the vagina to approx. 4.0, thus maintaining the natural vaginal environment.

For the treatment of mild to moderate bacterial infections, a 6-day application of Vagi-C is usually sufficient. If the lactobacilli flora is completely absent, longer application over several weeks is recommended. Repeating the treatment after the period increases the chance of a successful cure.

Use

Due to the natural mode of action of Vagi-C, the preparation can be used during pregnancy. It can be administered over weeks and months to prevent infection.
