HMB (abbreviation for β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate) is a metabolic product of the amino acid L-leucine. approximately 5% of the L-leucine consumed in the diet is usually metabolised to HMB, which has the advantage of reducing muscle breakdown (catabolism).
