Otrivin Cold is used to treat various types of colds.
Otrivin Cold is intended for use in the nose, where it constricts the blood vessels and thus causes the mucous membrane in the nose and the neighbouring area of the throat to decongest. This allows you to breathe more freely through your nose when you have a cold. The effect sets in within a few minutes and lasts for several hours. Otrivin Cold contains excipients (sorbitol solution and methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose) to prevent the nasal mucosa from drying out.
Otrivin Cold must not be used for longer than 1 week, as prolonged use can lead to permanent damage to the mucous membrane ("rhinitis medicamentosa").
